June & Al's involvement in square dancing has been both at and beyond the club level. Here is just a partial list of their commitment to Square Dancing: June and Al met at a Contra dance and from there Al took June to Swinging Singles where June learned to dance. Al had belonged to the Weavers Club previously to that. Al was the social convener for Swinging Singles and in 2001 organized a Car Rally for the club which was very popular and a huge success. In 2004 Al was the president of Swinging Singles. June and Al have been on the committee for the Gala since 2011, helped with decorating, organizing the food and drink and clean up. In 2005 June and Al headed the registration desk and hospitality for the Festival in Abbotsford. They managed to get free water from Nestles and cases of bottled water for the callers and cuers, They also secured a food truck from the Lions Club for the Festival. The 2017 Festival in Cloverdale was not without June and Al volunteering although Ai was under the weather and June showed up to take over their duties as promised. June and Al have been involved in decorating and the kitchen and cleanup at Stardowners. June has been helping at the front desk, managing the dance cards and the weekly dance money for many (5-6) years at Stardowners. June and Al started off in 2009 as Food Conveners for Fraser Valley Assn. meetings and progressed to Fraser Valley Directors in 2011 where have made regular visits to their assigned clubs and faithfully attended executive and general meetings. They are actively involved in Delta Sundancers, Quick Steppers, Royal Swingers, Rhythm B"s and Stardowners and also support many special occasion dances of other clubs in Region 2. They have supported Roadrunners in the past and attended campouts, festivals, special weekend events and rallys in Canada and the USA (proudly wearing their badges and spreading good cheer..) |
