2016 DRISCOLL TEEN AWARD RECIPIENTS

Amanda Mawdsley

Amanda has been square and round dancing for 11 years. She is a willing participant in all her encounters. She makes sure the younger dancers are included in all the activities and having fun. For the past three years she has been elected by her peers as the teen representative to the adult executive. She organized team-building activities, social events and brings the opinions of the teen members to the executive. She has volunteered over 480 hours in the past 6 years to our lesson programs. This year at the PNTSDF she won the Intermediate Round Dance Cueing Championship as well as the Senior Calling Championship.

Amanda has been volunteering at the Northcrest Care Centre since 2015 and has worked as an active member in the recreation department. She displays a genuine interest in the residents and is able to take on a leadership role by implementing programs suitable for them.

She has been involved in the Classic Steps Stage Productions for 11 years. This company provides various types of dance lessons to students of all ages. She is a volunteer assistant dance instructor for young girls taking musical theater classes, has a positive attitude and encourages the students to try their best while having fun. In 2015 she was the student of the year.

Her other interests include volunteering at Black Mountain Ranch since 2008. She is a hard-working member and consistently volunteers her time to help with the daily tasks to care for the horses. This volunteering is separate from the work she does with the Black Mountain Ranch Drill Team and the Black Mountain Ranch Riding club. She is respectful and responsible with every human and animal she works with. In 2014 she became captain of the Black Mountain Ranch Equestrian Drill Team.

Amanda is currently finishing her grade 12 year in the French Immersion program, which will earn her a double Dogwood diploma when she graduates. She has also received a full scholarship to Simon Fraser University.
