2013 Caller/Cuer Couple Scroll of Honour

Brian and Darlene Penny each started dancing in the 1960's. - Darlene in Chilliwack and Brian in Penticton. They met at UBC Square Dance club in 1973. She was one of the callers for the club and he soon began cueing for it. In 1990 they began cueing and teaching Round Dancing for the Silver Saddles and continued until the club folded in 2008.

When their daughter started dancing with the Wesburn Wranglers teen club in 1991 they became Wesburn's Round Dance Coaches, a position that they held until 1999. They coached rounds for the club again in the 2009/2010 season. During the 1994/1995 season they taught and cued beginner and second year Rounds for the chuckwagon 8's and the following year he started cueing for Royal Swingers.

In 1996 they started their own Phase 111 Round Dance Club (Country Waves) and also took on a cueing position for the Surrey Square Wheelers for a Season.

This couple have supported dancing at both the regional and national levels. Attending and teaching at many BC Festivals and Canadian Nationals and have been on the program at the Festival in Penticton for many years.

They have held many positions on the Vancouuver & District Caller/Teacher Association - including President.

They have been the CHIEF Round Dance Judges for the PNTSDF and have accepted the position again for the 2014 festival.
