2024 Dancer Scroll of Honour

SYLVIA FRENCH

Sylvia French

The 2024 recipient of the Scroll of Honour is Sylvia French.

Sylvia started square dancing just over 15 years ago and soon began volunteering for club responsibilities. She has enjoyed dancing at progressively higher levels and danced with a succession of clubs and volunteered her support wherever they dance.

Beyond the club level, Sylvia have been the secretary of the Fraser Valley Square and Round Dance Association. She worked on promotion and publicity, also on the executive board of the 2020 National Festival committee (that was, unfortunately, cancelled due to COVID 19). She was a volunteer attendee at BC Federation meetings. Sylvia also travelled to Vancouver Island every two weeks for a period of time to partner up at a club that was short on women dancers. She is a member of the Classic Gala Committee, who works hard to put on this wonderful event.

It was with the Swinging Singles of BC, now Circle 8s Square and Round Dance club that Sylvia learned to dance in 2007-2008 and where she took on many leadership roles. She’s an A-1 dancer now with Stardowners where she has volunteered in many capacities. Sylvia is no stranger to auspicious occasions—as along with Sandi Poje, Sylvia took part in presenting a donation from the former Building Fund to the Fraser Valley Square and Round Dance Association, the BC Federation and finally in Fredericton, New Brunswick to the Canadian Square and Round Dance Society.

The sincere appreciation of the Scroll of Honour committee goes out to Sylvia for her commitment and effort to support and enhance the quality of our wonderful activity.

Sylvia, we all take part in congratulating you on receiving the 2024 Scroll of Honour.
